When words string together
To form a phrase
That means nothing like
You wish it would.
When the sun hides
Behind a cloud
That’s in the shape
Of an imaginary animal
You once read as a child.
When you speak
And no one hears
Because you’re all talk,
No action.
When the typed word
Takes the place
Of general verbal conversation.
When hiding between the covers
Of a life unlike your own
For the purpose of
Forgetting.
When photos become
A recollection
Of a life unlived
And the captions
Reminisce, although
The faces are too old now,
And they’ve grown hollow
And drawn.
You need to say
Goodbye
To your lover,
Your friend.
When you wake and find me gone.

"Have some composure! Where is your posture?!"
she whispered
the end of things
clear
calm
but
the light
the shatter
the empty
was oh so loud
beautifully written girl
